MALTA
El territorio de Malta está formado por un grupo de siete islas situado en el centro del Mar Mediterráneo. Sólo están habitadas las tres mayores, Malta, Gozo y Comino. El terreno es bajo y rocoso, con costas acantiladas.
Malta es un crisol de civilizaciones con una historia milenaria. Ya estuvo habitada unos 5 200 años antes de nuestra era, y en sus islas existió una importante civilización prehistórica antes de llegar los fenicios, que llamaron a la mayor de ellas Malat, que significa puerto seguro. Más tarde, fue durante siglos la sede de la Orden de los Caballeros Hospitalarios o de San Juan y, posteriormente, pasó a pertenecer al Imperio Británico. Alcanzó la independencia en 1964.
El turismo es importante en Malta, aunque la isla también posee un sector de servicios en expansión.
El Archipiélago maltés, formado por 3 islas principales, Malta, Gozo y Comino, se encuentra en el corazón del Mediterráneo, entre el sur de Italia y el norte de África.
Las lenguas oficiales son el maltés y el inglés, siendo esta última herencia del Imperio Británico; el Reino Unido fue el último poder gobernante en el archipiélago. Malta cuenta con una historia de más de 7.000 años. Desde restos del Neolítico hasta sus ciudades amuralladas, esta pequeña isla presume de un colorido e intrigante pasado, en ocasiones descrito como un museo al aire libre.
El archipiélago se precia de más de 300 días de sol al año. Mientras que en la mayor parte de los países europeos el año se divide en cuatro estaciones, en Malta es difícil apreciar la primavera o el otoño, convirtiéndolo así en el destino ideal durante los meses de invierno.
Las aguas que rodean la isla son consideradas por la mayoría como las más limpias del Mediterráneo. La práctica de snorkle y submarinismo están sumamente recomendadas.
Los malteses son famosos por su hospitalidad y simpatía con los turistas, lo que contribuye a hacer del archipiélago uno de los lugares más seguros del mundo.

Aprende cualquier curso de buceo PADI en Malta como instructores independientes en colaboración con diferentes centros de buceo, uno de ellos es Strand Diving Services, centro instalado en St. Pauls al noreste de la isla de Malta. A pocos minutos de la zona más frecuentada para el buceo en la isla (Cirkewwa) y de la salida de los ferrys para Gozo y Comino.

Se encuentra en el centro del mediterráneo, al sur de Italia y al norte de Libia. Por su situación estratégica a sido disputado por diversos países a lo largo de la historia.
Fue colonia inglesa hasta 1964 año que paso a ser una república independiente. En el 2008 entro a formar parte de la zona euro.
El archipiélago maltés tiene una extensión de 316 km y una población de 400.000 habitantes. Se compone de tres islas habitadas permanentemente, Malta, Gozo y Comino. Siendo Malta la mas grande y con más población.
Tiene dos lenguas oficiales, el maltés y el ingles pero mucha de la población también habla italiano.
Los malteses son mayoritariamente católicos, recibiendo una gran influencia por parte de la iglesia.
El clima es de tipo mediterráneo, con veranos muy calurosos e inviernos templados. En verano se puede pasar de los 32ºC durante el día. En primavera y otoño es recomendable alguna prenda de entre tiempo para las noches.
Para movernos por el país, es recomendable el hacerlo en coche (exceptuando Comino). La isla dispone de una red de autobuses públicos amplia, pero los horarios de ellos pueden retrasarnos mucho en nuestras visitas. Por la noche a partir de las 21h se reduce el servicio.
Si alquilamos coche tenemos que tener en cuenta que se conduce por la izquierda.
Las islas maltesas no son muy grandes, lo que hace relatvamente fácil moverse sin problemas. El servicio público de autobuses en Malta y Gozo es una buena manera de conseguir moverse por todas las zonas turísticas, ir prácticamente a todas partes y son baratos y eficientes. El coste de una ruta de autobús oscila entre € 0,47 a € 1,16 y el viaje más largo en autobús tarda alrededor de cincuenta minutos.
Alquilar un coche es una buena opción si quieres llegar a los confines más lejanos de las islas. Alquiler de scooters, motos y bicicletas de montaña es una opción, pero el viaje puede ser algo limitado ya que no todos los caminos son adecuados para un transporte de dos ruedas.
Un servicio regular de ferries enlaza de Malta a Gozo, y tarda aproximadamente 20 minutos por trayecto. También hay un hidroavión que sale desde el Gran Puerto de La Valeta a Marr Harbour en Gozo. Un servicio de taxi de agua enlaza Sliema con la capital Valletta.
En la isla de Malta escontrareis infinidad de opciones, pequeñas tiendas que venden pastelitos de hojaldre rellenos o trozos de pizza, restaurantes típicos malteses donde la especialidad es el conejo, pizzerías o restaurantes de lujo.
Pescado, en el pueblo de Marsaxlokk los restaurantes están especializados en ello, si tenéis la oportunidad de visitarlo, hacerlo. Relación calidad / precio muy buena.
Conejo, en el pueblo de Mgarr podréis degustar el plato típico de la isla, el conejo, los restaurantes de la zona están muy especializados en este plato.
Atención a los horarios de cocina, se suele comer de 12.30 a 14h y cenar de 18 a 20h. En zonas muy turísticas podréis cenar y comer más tarde, pero no al horario español.
La encontrareis en los pueblos de Sliema, St. Julians y Paceville. Infinidad de bares con diferentes estilos. Los días con mas afluencia son el viernes, sábado y domingo.
En los meses de verano encontraremos a todos los estudiantes de ingles en la zona.
En Malta encontraremos pequeñas calas de arena, con agua turquesa y de una claridad sorprendente.
Muchas de estas calas se encuentran en el norte y noroeste de la isla.
Mellieha Bay, situada en el mismo pueblo, es la mas grande de la isla, ideal para familias con niños ya que no tiene profundidad y el fondo es de arena. De las mejores pero muy concurrida.

Golden Bay se encuentra justo al lado del pueblo de Manikata, en la misma bahía donde esta el hotel Radisson.
Buse: 47
Paradise Bay se encuentra justo detrás del hotel del mismo nombre en Cirkewwa, al ser una pequeña bahía en temporada hay que ir pronto.
Dispone de un bar- restaurante. Para llegar a ella tenéis que desviaros por una pequeña carretera justo antes del hotel Paradise y en 1km la encontrareis.
Buses: los mismos que a Cirkewwa. No llega ninguno a la playa.
Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, esta playa es paralela a Golden Bay hacia el sur. No hay acceso directo en coche.
Buses: los mismos que a Golden Bay.
Gjena Bay, más al sur que Ghajn, acceso directo en coche.
St. Peter Pool, es una cala sin arena pero interesante de visitar. Situada al sur de la isla, muy próxima al pueblo de Marsaxlokk.
Si queremos viajar en el tiempo no podemos perdernos la vista a la capital de Malta, La Valletta. Tampoco podemos perdernos el pasear por las estrechas calles de Medina o Rabat.
Si queremos un ambiente marinero, nos marcharemos al pueblo de Marsaxlokk y muy cerca de este, hacia el oeste, encontraremos el Blue Grotto, precioso arco escarbado en la roca por el mar, junto al pueblo de Wied Zurrieq.
A corta distancia y siguiendo la costa hacia el norte, encontraremos la pequeña aldea de Ghar Lapsi, con una preciosa poza que nos invita a bañarnos.

Considered to be one of the main commercial hubs on the island, Sliema is a kaleidoscope of lovely shops, attractive restaurants and cafes and a location which is second to none.
Built along the islands coast, it houses several of Maltas most recently built hotels. Sliema comes from the word sliem which means peace. It was once a fishing town. However, during the early 20th century, this town began to grow rapidly and soon became a summer resort for wealthy Valletta residents.
In fact, one may find a number of elegant villas and town houses lining the inland streets. The Sliema promenade is ideal for people wishing to walk, jog, or just sit down and relax on one of the benches facing the seafront. The warm summer months turn this promenade into a sociable meeting place for both locals and tourists. Both our Adult and Junior English language schools are located in Sliema, just a 20 minute bus ride away from Maltas capital city, Valletta. St. Julians, one of the islands most popular nightlife areas is only 15 minutes away along the promenade.

If you are looking for an unforgettable language learning experience which combines relaxation, entertainment and guaranteed improvement in your English, then our school in Gozo is your destination.
IELS Gozo is ideally located in Ghajnsielem, within walking distance of Mgarr Harbour where ferries run regularly taking just 20mins to cross to and from the main island of Malta. Ghajnsielem is an attractive village with a strong sense of community and a thriving social life.
The village of Ghajnsielem is a harmonious and peaceful region of Gozo. It is a self-sufficient village, with two grocers, selling all your daily needs, an excellent butcher, bakeries and a large fish shop. Nearby is a pharmacy and a bookshop as well as a post office. Vans pass through the village every morning selling fresh fruit and vegetables, freshly caught fish and newly baked bread.
In the Band club near the centre of Ghajnsielem you can taste a typical local wine and homemade pizza, play pool and observe Gozitan village life. The No. 25 bus, which works in conjunction with the ferry timetable, leaves Mgarr Harbour and passes the school every 30 minutes in the direction of the capital Victoria.
Ghajnsielem has three restaurants where you can taste the local cuisine and is situated only a few minutes walk from the Grand Hotel and also Mgarr Harbour with its lively choice of bars and restaurants. At the end of August the village celebrates the Feast of Saint Loreto with a week of processions, band music, fireworks and fun. The school always throws a big party and students can have a drink together and observe the lively entertainment from the school balcony, before joining the procession and following the band into the main square.
Here at our English school in Gozo we offer a programme of regular leisure activities so that students can be sure that if they choose not to take a trip one week, they will be able to join it the following week. Aside from these trips and tours there are always impromptu dinners, celebrations and special events which come up at different times during the season.
Gozo offers lots of opportunities for sunbathing. You can choose from a multitude of beaches. Boat trips around Gozo, to Comino or to the main land of Malta are organized on a regular basis. For those interested in the cultural side of the island, Gozo has innumerable monuments, temples and churches.
Gozos coastline is rich with inlets and coves between long stretches of high cliffs with crystal clear waters all around, making Gozo the ideal place for diving which you can also combine with one of our English courses!
Our charming and experienced guide will take you on walking tours along the coast where you can marvel at the saltpans, swim in hidden bays and take gentle exercise while enjoying the spectacular views from cliffs, through valleys and around small villages.
Our Friday boat trip to Comino is a wonderful beginning to your weekend - swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing while marvelling at the rugged, rocky coastline where pirates stored their ill-gotten gains in hidden caves.

All activities are supervised by our trained activity leaders who ensure the well-being of our Young Learners and bring events to life. A welcome party is held on the first Monday of the course when our staff members are introduced to the new students.

Many students coming to learn English in Malta choose the General English Course which aims to improve your competence in general English. Whether your aim is to learn a new language or to improve your English skills, this is the right course for you. Intensive English is designed to give the student a solid foundation in the English language and is ideal for students who need to improve their fluency in a relatively short time. Students are encouraged to use the English language by means or role-play, group discussions and a variety of real life situations.

This course is ideal for combining the experience of learning the language in a general English group whilst at the same time receiving individual classes. This combination English course is available at our school in Malta and Gozo.

Beginners
The Beginner English Course starts every first Monday of the month and is ideal for learners who have little or no knowledge of English. With a view to surviving in an English-speaking environment, it is designed to raise the beginner students confidence and encourage them to continue learning English.

Our One-to-One course is ideal for you if you are seeking individual attention and personalised support to help you achieve your language goals whilst you learn English in Malta. One-to-One lessons can also be combined with any of our other English courses. You may book from as few as 10 lessons per week up to 40 lessons per week.
